B2C eCommerce Trends for 2011

Focus on the User Experience in the Multi Channel World

This survey from Endeca outlines that 70% of online businesses identify enriching the customer online experience as key for 2011.

I believe that in the UK, as in the US, we are seeing the same consumer driven need for a richer online experience.

Fashion United recently published statistics  stating;
40% of online shoppers avoid buying due to lack of images and poor usability.
Value fashion retailers are leaking sales due to a lack of extra web functions essential in converting visits into sales.
Over half of consumer’s claim that features such as image zoom (58%) and 360 rotation of products (51%) will increase the likelihood of online purchases

This also applies to developing customer loyalty and improving the brand, those consumers who use the internet more regularly for their purchases are more demanding, looking for interesting website content, video and  imaging to keep them coming back for more!
Market Wire Research in November 2010 found 1600 online customers who ranked these features as key to buying;

1.Product images are clear and thorough
2.Site search is speedy and productive
3.Advanced product viewing functionality (360  degree viewing, see available colors as they would look on the product, zoom-in/out, etc).

Undoubtedly websites need to get on-board with the consumer need for better visuals, greater choice and total usability, sites need to be responsive, flexible and interactive or we may find that our customers start to look elsewhere!

Gerrard Dennis of the Simply Group outlines in a recent article on Econsultancy the value of creating product video and 360 imaging.

The introduction of 360 images to their websites increased online conversions by more than 20%. This is simply another solid statistic pointing to a means of staying ahead of the competition and the economic downturn. The article outlines  the limitations of  traditional “rotation” 360, in that you cannot see every angle of the product. With OutSphere 360+ this is not an issue, you can view every angle.
