3D Photography

OutSphere 360+ Interactive Imaging could also be described as 3D Photography. In the strictest sense it is not 3D Photography but it is often the best way to describe our imaging due to the multi-spherical nature of its movement.

We also place a small shadow underneath the product image which gives more of an effect of 3D Photography. Whilst the nature of OutSphere imaging is the result of years of development and specialist equipment, 3D Photography is not a new concept.

Stereoscopy has been around for quite some time and the basic concept was first introduced by Sir Charles Wheatstone in 1838. He used a stereoscope to view drawings but he pioneered the concept that would be adopted within photography.

In 1936 Theodor V Ionescu was granted the patent for 3D imaging in early television and cinema. Today modern methods of 3D scanning collate data and create 3D images which can be viewed via special glasses.
There is a form of 3D viewing which does not require glasses and is referred to as Free- viewing (Wiki). This requires the viewer to look at the two images and to cross eyes, this gives an appearance of three images, with the central one gaining a visual depth that looks and is perceived as 3D. The technology from cinema has now reached the home with the arrival of 3D televisions and the phenomena of 3D has fast become the norm and expected in many areas of our everyday lives.

No surprise then that 360 imaging for products online can also be referred to as 3D Photography, 3D Product Photography or 3D Commercial Photography. The terminology is used freely if not always entirely accurately.
There are of course examples where there is actual 3D Photography being achieved, but it does require special preparation, special equipment and special viewing glasses to see it.

OutSphere’s 360 or 3D Photography gives a very pleasing effect but the real advantage is the ability to view from any angle and manipulate the image online. For many products this is a real boost and enhances website presentation, giving customers the interactive experience they seek and online businesses a commercial advantage.
